Text project
Ladakhi culture has its roots in neighbouring Tibet. But while in Tibet an invaluable cultural heritage was destroyed by the Chinese occupation of 1951 and the later Cultural Revolution, this culture has largely been preserved in Ladakh. That is why we support projects dedicated to preserving culture and religion.
One of these projects is the search for, the collection of and the editing of old texts dealing with the history of Ladakh. Until now, hardly any reliable writings on Ladakh’s cultural tradition and history have been published. Yet a rich treasure of texts on these subjects certainly exists, scattered all over Ladakh. In order to preserve this heritage and make it available to a wider public, we intend to
- find and collect the writings that still exist
- record them digitally, publish them and thus preserve them for future generations
- and, in the long run, translate the recorded texts into several languages
Three volumes on the history of Ladakh and on its great monasteries are already in preparation, written by Lama Konchok Sonam, an outstanding figure in both political and religious life.
